Visionary Art comes out of the school of Fantastic Realism, started by Rudolf Hausner, Ernst Fuchs, Erich Brauer, Wolfgang Hutter and Anton Lehmden. The technique classically used is the Old Masters Mischtechnik or mixed technique, where water and resin based mediums are used together. This technique was established by the Dutch masters, made its way to Italy (tempera grasse) and was said to be lost. Ernst Fuchs has been credited with the revival of the mixed technique, though, in reality, the use of the mixed technique has never ceased . The analogy of the structure of the body is often associated with this way of painting- egg tempera provides the structure, or bones, and the subsequent delicate transparent layers of color provide the muscle and skin. Because of the nature of the intense white of egg tempera, painting with light is often the terminology used. And you can achieve atmospheric, cosmic and spiritual effects unlike any other technique of painting. There are multiple facets of the of Visionary Art and many ways to access the visions we paint. I access all of mine through various forms of meditation. From a young child, I have always had a strong visional life. I am a visual, spherical learner and it took me quite a bit of focus and self training to achieve the more common linear perspective demonstrated in our schools. The Mischtecnik has allowed me to translate what I see with my inner visions. I have painted with amazing artists over the last 7 years and am forever challenging myself to be more proficient with my painting skills and with what I put down on board. Developing a style is an interesting journey. Beyond the literal skill of painting and brush technique a style requires content. I realize that my overall content has to do with creation. Energy becoming form, the void moving into the now, the unseen becoming seen, energy taking form, we becoming me and me becoming we. So, the spiritual journey that I pursue in the life is completely intertwined with my art, as it is with many artist. As I explore the realms I journey to in my spiritual practice, so do I journey through the exploration of the realms of my artistry and hope to welcome you, the viewer to embark on a journey of your own through the portal of my creativity.
